On the Horns of a Dilemma

Image

Have you ever been faced with the situation where you were expected to choose between two different things or make a decision betwixt two and at every time it seems really difficult? Well, let me tell you a story.

Two kids were playing football(soccer) out on a field; both boys being the same age. The ball they had to play with got into the front yard of a senior citizen, he is Mr. Ben. Now Mr. Ben has got a heat sensory lawn sprinkler on his front yard which he uses as a private joke on trespassers - to get them all wet. Now both boys already aware of the consequence of going into yard where caught on the horns of a dilemma - whether to go get the ball and get wet in the process or to forebear.

Can you guess what they did?

Well, both boys packed their bags and headed home concluding that it wasn't what them getting wet this cold afternoon. Half way home both boys realized that may..ee..be it wasn't the best idea after all as they were faced with the reality that going home meant doing house chores, so they went back. On getting there Mr. Ben was standing with the ball in his left hand and a hot coffee in his right. He said "I knew you young fellas will be back; getting wet isn't as bad after all as some house chore right!".

Then he gave them a life lesson with a rather stern look, "when faced with a rather conflicting and difficult situation to choose from, go with the one that you can't track back from ", "isn't that more dangerous? it seems like the one I could go back on my decision is safer" one of the boys interrupted. "Well you see..." Mr.Ben continued "the decision you can't go back on will be done and over with while the other one will almost certainly be waiting for you". "You see, if you had taken the ball, got wet, gone home, that will be all about that but, if you had gone home without the ball you will always wonder about what would have happened if you had got the guts to go for the ball instead of heading home as you did and you will always have the desire to come back for the ball sooner or later" . "Ooh", both boys sighed "so if we take the path we could always return from we will always be tempted to go back".

I hope you got my illustration from the above fictional story.
Go with the choice most difficult to return or track back from. See, if you take steps you can always turn back from, you will always be left with that option to return, it becomes a temptation, it could render you passive and sloppy. But taking steps, giant steps difficult to turn back on will draw out the best in you and always certainly spur you on.
